Our 50th Anniversary

With an anniversary comes a history… A history of shows, artists, amazing moments, little memories, date nights, curtain calls, dress rehearsals, standing ovations and so much more.

The Music Center is celebrating its 50th Anniversary on December 6th and 7th.  We have some incredible events lined up for the occasion, including an all-star performance and gala on the 6th, which will highlight all of our resident companies, and the Academy Awards long tenure in our Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, as well as all the extraordinary individuals like Dorothy Chandler, who, with their dedication and contributions, have made the last 50 years possible.

Following that will be a celebratory party inside the Pavilion on December 7th that toasts the future of The Music Center and all the amazing things the next 50 years will no doubt bring.  Tickets and more information on both events are available on our website.

But beyond the celebration, this anniversary is also about the many people who have come to The Music Center over years – The performers, the employees, the patrons and the audiences.  It’s about what this cultural landmark means to THEM, and how the things they’ve seen and experienced at The Music Center have effected their lives and what it means to Los Angeles…

This Week @MusicCenterLA

It’s a jam packed one with lots to choose from! Our quick digest to help sort it out is below…

This Week @MusicCenterLA

Closing this week:

With only two performances left of LA Opera‘s Dido & Aeneas / Bluebeard’s Castle, be sure to catch one of them as the last show is this Saturday! Bonus: Read these 13 Things You Didn’t Know about the production!

Opening this week:

Are you in the mood for something raucously funny this week? Center Theatre Group presents Joe Orton’s 1969 British comedy What the Butler Saw opening Wednesday night at the Mark Taper Forum. In its day it was considered a scandalous play… See what you think 45 years later!

The LA Phil presents the Academy of Ancient Music for one night only, and then presents a three-performance run of Ravel & Elgar.

The LA Master Chorale will be in the Walt Disney Concert Hall with Renaissance: Reawakened, in which you’ll hear the music that graced the cathedral halls during the Renaissance.

While the REDCAT has an extremely busy week with dynamic programming almost every night of the week, we recommend Studio: Fall 2014. Not often do we as audiences get to experience an artist’s process, but this is one of LA’s own unique exceptions to that rule.

Ongoing daily throughout the week and all the way through to March is the ASCAP: One-Hundred Years and Beyond exhibit in the Library of Congress Ira Gershwin Gallery at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Free and open to the public!

See you at the Center!

Go Metro to the Music Center!

As much as we love Los Angeles, the traffic and parking is always a challenge – And a frustrating and expensive one at that.  So whenever we can, we try to take the Metro.  With stops at Civic Center and Grand Park, Metro is one of the easiest methods for getting downtown to The Music Center.  Check out our travel tips on our website for more information and start planning your route!

And since we love Metro riders so much, we regularly work with Metro to offer special Destination Discounts around our shows and events.  Right now Metro riders can “tap and save” 20% off tickets to Ballet Preljocaj this weekend.  Just show your TAP card at the box office and you snag the deal!

Check out Metro’s website for more details and keep an eye out for more cool perks to come!

We had the Time of our Lives…

…And judging by all the happy, good looking people who came out to our Movie Moves event this past Saturday, we’re pretty sure you did too!  Whether you were swept up by the rhythm of FlashDance, or mistaken for Ruby Keeler in our Busby Berkley dance, we were truly impressed with how you all got down.  Here’s a little recap of the fun…
